Last night's stunning Danish No Vote spectacularly vindicates the Bruges Group's approach to the Danish Referendum. This despite a dirty tricks campaign by Britain in Europe which resulted in false reporting in the British and Danish press as to the nature and extent of our Danish Referendum Appeal.

The performance by the Danish "No" campaign was magnificent given that the press, the Danish political parties and financial power all pulled out the stops for a yes vote. This was the reason that we set up the Danish Referendum Appeal in the first place to help even this balance.

Following the sorry example of 1992/3 the EU elite must accept defeat with good grace, respect the wishes of the Danish people, and clarify that there will not be another vote. In a week when the EU told Milosevic that he must respect the democratic wishes of the people the EU should do the same - unequivocally and publicly!
