Issues that were debated, including their electoral significance, were; the Europe Union, tax, public service reform, the Party’s constitution and the economy.
John Redwood, MP was first elected as the MP for Wokingham in 1987. In May 1993 he was appointed Secretary of State for Wales and was made a Privy Counsellor. In 1995 he challenged John Major for the Conservative Party leadership.
Since September 2004, he has been Shadow Secretary of State for Deregulation.
He has written widely on Eurosceptic issues, free enterprise and democracy. His most recent publications are; Singing the Blues, Third Way – Which Way?, Our Currency, Our Country, Stars and Strife: The coming conflict between Europe and America and The Death of Britain?
Steve Richards is Chief Political Commentator for The Independent and also presents GMTV’s Sunday Programme, Radio 4’s A Week in Westminster and Radio 4’s political quiz show, Parliamentary Questions, now in its tenth series. He appears regularly on News 24’s Head to Head programme. Steve has also written and presented two hour-long films for Channel Four on Tony Blair. Before joining The Independent Steve was Political Editor for the New Statesman. He also spent five years as a BBC Political Correspondent.
As a columnist and presenter Steve has interviewed all the major political figures in Britain and many of his interviews for the New Statesman and ITV have made front-page news stories.
